Nominations called for 15th Cycling Luminaries Awards
14 March 2019 | Community, Events
We Ride Australia is delighted to call for nominations for the Cycling Luminaries Awards, the fifteenth time these national Awards have been held since 2002.
Recognising the achievements of people who are making a difference nationally, past winners have come from all corners of Australia – from remote Kimberley and Gulf communities to our regional centres and major cities.
We Ride Australia’s Peter Bourke said “the Cycling Luminaries Awards have been recognising the incredible diversity of cycling programs and achievements since 2002 and we know there are many more stories to be told.
“So if you are aware of a person, group or project making a big difference for people riding a bike anywhere in the country, we want you to nominate them now for an award!”
Previous winners have included the inspirational Tina McCarthy, for her women’s cycling programs in Melbourne, a program for pupils on Goulburn Island, 300km north east of Darwin, that boosted attendance and literacy at school and a number of transformational cycle tourism projects breathing life into otherwise economically depressed regional towns.
Award winners will be announced at a Gala Dinner in Melbourne at Marvel Stadium, Docklands as part of the Australian Bicycle Summit on May 15, an event that brings together industry leaders, national advocacy organisations and government decision makers.
Nominations are open to any individual, group, business, event, organisation or school that has achieved significant change and inspired or influenced others.
