New report models the path to cleaner transport
22 May 2023 | netzero, Policy & planning
WeRide media statement, Monday 22 May 2023 The report ‘Shifting gear: the path to cleaner transport’ released today by the Climate Council has commissioned modelling that lays out a pathway to transition our transport system for the future. The report states a tripling in active transport would be needed to achieve both the Albanese Government’s legislated reduction of 43% on 2005 levels by 2030 and more ambitious scenarios to limit global warming to 2 degrees by 2050. WeRide agrees with the Climate Council that solutions to cut emissions and accelerate the use of active and public transport are available…

As part of the Albanese Government’s efforts to accelerate the transition of our transport fleet for a low carbon future, the consultation for a National Electric Vehicle Strategy has assumed significant importance after the initial tax bill for EVs passed the House in the first weeks of the 47th Parliament. Together with national, state and territory bicycle organisations We Ride Australia prepared a submission to the future strategy in which our thesis was pretty clear. With e-bikes, e-cargo bikes and micro-mobility increasingly popular as car-replacements for daily commuting trips, providing accessible and affordable mobility options due to their significantly lower…

Today is the one day in the year we celebrate our choice to ride a bike to work. Our bicycle organisations, progressive Councils and governments reinforce the steps they are taking to help us along the way whether that is advocacy, programs or putting the infrastructure on the ground. But with significant numbers of Australians making it clear they would consider riding for transport if the conditions were better, these investments pay off. Sydney’s six new COVID-response bikeways have had such a growth in use their financial…

The 2022-23 Budget announced by Treasurer Josh Frydenberg* on Tuesday night comes as the economy is showing signs of recovery driven by our resource sector, there is continuing concern for recovery from impacts of both COVID and recent floods, there is a significant focus on defence capabilities, and we have a federal election within weeks. Looking for good news in our area of active transport and the transition to a low carbon future was somewhat of a challenge, however there are a couple of good outcomes to talk about. The first is that the Amy Gillett Foundation’s proposals for national…

Enabling local, door-to-door mobility…

Updated 8/7/21 2020 was a year of enormous changes to work and transport in our cities and towns.
